KENYA : Dockers Shine
KPA men's and women's teams rake in the points in Mombasa as KCB maul Mennonites at Nyayo
Kenya Ports Authority men's and women's teams collected maximum points during Kenya Basketball Federation national premier league matches in Mombasa over the weekend. KPA beat Blazers 86- 46 at KPA's Makande Gymnasium. The Dockers opened with Tom Okello scoring seven points before Jay Michoma of Blazers responded with three points. The home team led in the four quarters taking the first 29-10 points.
Okello emerged the top scorer with 18 points while the Blazers' Sydney Ochieng, with 11 points, was their highest point maker. Efforts by Ochieng , Samuel Mogesi and George Makori to narrow the gap were frustrated by the Dockers forward line of Okello , Micky Wana and Fred Otieno. In the last quarter the host led by Joseph Ouma widened the lead gap.
In the women's category, KPA beat Sprite Storms 53-37 point at the same venue. The home team lost the first quarter 10-11 before turning tables in the second, third and final quarters. The dockers team without international player Brenda Angeshi and Salma Akinyi who are in the national team bound for the Maputo African Games, still outplayed the visitors.
Such was the pace of the game that veteran Angela Bosire of Storms was carried out after pulling a muscle. In Division One- Kenya Navy were grounded by Nairobi Aviation 72-56. The lower division matches saw Parklands Baptists go down 62-78 to World Hope while Nakuru Club beat Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) 72-60. In the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) league matches at Railways Club, Old Pirates pipped Strathmore University 73-71. Martin Obure and Reagan Basweti shot 18 each but Collins Omondi led with 26. Barclays Bank beat Little Prince 71-57.Don Bosco crushed Friends of Basketball 62-41 with Joel Atebe scoring 24. KU Pirates ran rings round Neosasa Morans winning 42-15. Multi Media Univesity hit Heroes 61-46. Legacy nipped Dolphins 41-38.
