Bringing in Kenyan forward Desmond Owili has almost led to a complete turnaround for UCU Canons. Last year’s MTN-Fuba League losing semifinalists looked far from postseason contenders without him. Charging Rhino, UCU’s opponents at YMCA court today, have every reason to be wary of Owili beyond the diversion of his slam dunks.

Coach Nick Natuhereza returns after missing the 91-63 rout of Nkumba Marines just in time to see what his late acquisition can do. In that victory, Owili had seven points and 11 rebounds to add to his 11 points on debut to vanquish Heaters 94-50.

The support cast of guards Sudi Ulanga and Sande Okot bore most of the burden before Owili. This strength in depth now easily makes former champions Rhino underdogs.

Slow start
Rhino wouldn’t bother about this tag if they play in the manner they did to defeat Kyambogo Warriors 82-68 some weeks back. Following a slow start to the season, Walter Omony has started to impress offensively to share the podium with Mark Opio like it’s a continuation of their duopoly in the Division Two Championship run last season.

They beat Heaters 48-42 last Saturday but the disparity in size will definitely play against them which demands for a collective effort on the inside.

At Makerere University main ground, rejuvenated Livingstone face Air Force and Shooters take on Emperors in Division 3 encounters. In the women’s category, KIU meet Nabisunsa.
