Only hours after making a trip across the country, DMark Power came to YMCA court on Sunday night in demolition mode beating Nkumba Marines 78-66 in the MTN-Fuba League.
Most of the team which attended Power forward Isaac Afidra’s introduction to the family of his fiancé in Lira, a five-hour-drive from Kampala, showed no ill-effects.
They showed lots of camaraderie, celebrating each successful basket wildly, in a game the champions bossed three of the four quarters 19-17, 21-22, 16-7 and 23-19. “The game started in a very tough way but players did a great job. This league is hard especially being the defending champion(s),” Adam Kakuru, the Power statistician, said.
They had overcome Philip Wakimwero’s game-high 23 points and 19 rebounds in a game illuminated by dunks from Robert Mubiru and reserve Robert Wanitho.
Afidra watched from the sidelines as Mubiru scored eight points and 10 rebounds whereas Michael Kojo contributed eight and 14 boards.
