Kyambogo Warriors showed their former star Abdullahi Ramadhan that they can function without him on Friday night at YMCA court. On his debut for 7UP Falcons, Dulah, as he is known, almost made his former teammates look inferior before they found his anti-dote to defeat his new team 92-77 in the MTN-Fuba League.
Prior to ex-Falcon Carlos Ochi coming on to mark him, Dulah scored 17 points in the first quarter only to finish with 26, four rebounds and seven assists. “I never felt tired though the coach took me off. It was only the first game and things will get better,” Dulah, a Warrior for the past two years, said.
In their first game since the death of founder John Ssimbwa (RIP), Falcons emerged from the minute-silence more vibrant to take the first period 30-18. That’s the last they looked really competitive. Through Eric Malinga’s 26 points, Warriors controlled the rest of the proceedings to clinch the final three 22-11, 26-16 and 26-10.
All this was crowned by Ivan Enabu (8) dummying Dulah to play a no-look pass under the armpit to an onrushing Eric to slam it home with the Tanzanian guard still holding to the rim. A play of the day!
Coach Mandy Juruni utilised the depth of his side greatly. Brian Gumisiriza (13), Henry Malinga (12), Michael Kariuki (12), a half-fit Ronnie Kasewu (11) and Steven Okias (10) punished Falcons’ thinness.
Warriors got more second chance points by picking 30 offensive boards as opposed to the latter’s 22.
