He gets cheered and booed in equal measure but all the same, Tanzanian Abdullahi Ramadhan has grown to love playing in Uganda. Dulah, as he is fondly known, is back.

After two seasons in the blue and white stripe of Kyambogo Warriors, he has now chosen the red and white of Falcons. “I am happy to be here again. I will sign a contract very soon and hopefully, it’s before Friday (when Falcons face Warriors),” Dulah told Daily Monitor yesterday. His contract with the team he led to their first and only title two years ago was not renewed following the 4-3 final series loss to DMark Power last December.

Just after those finals, Warriors patron Ambrose Tashobya divulged to this newspaper the need to cut down the expenditure at the club. In their title winning season, they signed on Dulah and Martin Okwako, now with UCU Canons. “It’s not cheap having full-time professionals unless you generate the money,” Tashobya said then.

Sources intimate that Dulah was paid close to Shs1.2m in monthly salary during his two years at Warriors though Falcons are not willing to reveal any financial details. In addition to the guard, Falcons also got former UCU forward Philip Alweny. Club president Denis Mbidde is adamant they got the right men. “We have added experience, size, maturity and precision.”

Dulah couldn’t agree more. “I know Falcons is a good team. All it needs now is leadership. I really love the basketball here and everything else so coming back to Uganda was an easy decision.”
