KENYA : Now champs KPA halts Strathmore's Swords winning streak in league
NAIROBI (Premier league) - Reigning women champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) beat Strathmore University 52-36 in a premier league in a match played at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
It was a good harvest for the dock women KPA who also thrashed Mennonites 73-15 the previous day. The led 24-20 at the break before a third quarter surge saw them keep the students, previously unbeaten, scoreless for nearly six minutes.
KPA cruised away 40-24 and Strathmore never recovered.It was veteran players Joyce Makungu who hit 13and Mirriam Awuor who scored 11 to lift KPA. Faith Owich managed 12 for the Swords.
Against Mennonites a balanced attack from Awuor and Salma Akinyi who collected 11 points each and Volnet Wanyama who hit 10 did it for ports women who were ahead 40-6 at the break.
Co-operative Bank of Kenya had 16 points from on form Linda Alando, 13 from Caroline Achieng and 12 from Caroline Ouma as they whipped Predators 70-28 in a one sided show.
Reigning men champions Co-operative Bank of Kenya beat Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to maintain their unbeaten run. The bankers trailed 30-31 at the break but pupped away in the last half to register their eighth successive win.
They now have 16 points from eight matches. Peter Kiganya nailed 16 points and towering Vak Bol aded 12. KPA had 15 fro Samuel Ochola and 12 from Sam Odera.
Ulinzi Warriors also ambushed Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University 49-41 despite trailing in the last two quarters. The soldiers were up 30-15 at half timer. They have 16 points from 10 games.
In Kakamega, former champions KCB Lions thrashed home side Masinde Muliro University of A 84-54. The bankers who have lost three games are third on 15 points.
Kenya Navy beat Umoja 60-48, University of Nairobi "Terrorists" torched Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 48-28 and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) hit Parklands Baptist 68-53 as Kevin Otieno nailed 20 points.
Nairobi Aviation College (NAC) romped to a 65-52 win over the visiting Kenya Navy. Matches involving United States International University (USIU) Tigers against Mennonites and KPA men against Strathmore University were called as rains caused havoc in the gym.
