CHARGING Rhinos put up a good challenge against Miracle Eagles in the FUBA basketball league on Wednesday taking the second quarter 37-32 but failed to maintain the rhythm in the third and fourth quarter losing 85-74 at YMCA Wandegeya on Wednesday night.
Mark Opio scored a game high 21 and Joseph Odyek added 13 points but was not enough to give Rhinos victory against the more experienced Miracle.
The Eagles, led by coach player Steven Omony and Brian Ssentongo, trailed in the first two quarters but put up a spirited fight to win the pulsating game 85-74.
Omony scored 18 points while Ssentongo had 21 with last season’s MVP Norman Blick having a disastrous day with only seven points to his credit.
Rhinos coach Frank Ochieng attributed the defeat to lack of fitness and inexperience.
“We played a better game but it was inexperience and fitness that let us down. We reached a time when we could not contest rebounds and our defence was exhausted, but we are going to work on that,” Ochieng stated.
Meanwhile Nkumba Marines take on student rivals Ndejje, a team that beat UCU Canons in their league opener.
KIU Rangers will entertain UCU Lady Canons at 6:30 before the men's fixture at 8:30pm.
