RWANDA : Hoops league increased to ten clubs
By Ostine Arinaitwe
THIS year’s national basketball league will involve ten clubs following last minute entries by St.Joseph Kabgayi and Nyarugenge.
Initially, the league was expected to throw off over the weekend but had to be delayed for another week, to incorporate the two clubs.
“They registered late so we decided to postpone the league because they were still finalizing some player transfers,” the national basketball federation (Ferwaba)’s technical director Shema Maboko said.
Kabgayi and Nyarugenge now join reigning champions Kigali Basketball Club (KBC), APR, CSK, Espoir, UGB, Rusizi, Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), National University of Rwanda (NUR) and.
Meanwhile APR coach Cliff Owuor has vowed to wrestle the title from KBC.
“We did not play to our potential last year. We were not consistent enough but we have done a lot during the off season and are in good shape for the new season,” the former Kenyan International told this paper recently.
The indomitable lions have already shown their intent by luring Zambian shooting guard Patrick Buzangu to the military side.
