NIGERIA : Relegation safe Rockets open regular season account
ZARIA (DStv PBL) - Tapgun Rockets basketball club of Jos on Wednesday recorded its first regular season win in their Savannah conference pairing game against Nigeria Immigration basketball club of Kano.
The Rockets, coached by Umar Bala, showed great zeal against the visitors, with the scoreboard showing a 67-62 scoreline at the final buzzer.
An elated Bala told our correspondent that his team just realised that they couldn’t go on losing week after week.
The former Kano Pillars basketball club points guard and captain gave assurance that the team would be better in the 2011/ 2012 season thanks to a Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) ruling, which relegated Plateau Peaks basketball club.
Peaks who lost its week-13 regular season game to Yelwa Hawks, will try its luck in the lower national division-one next season.
Peaks basketball club relegation came as a results of forfeiting two regular season games against Bauchi Nets and Kano Pillars, the team thus become the second casualty in the 2010/2011 season after Delta Force basketball club of Asaba suffered the same fate in the Atlantic conference of the league.
Meanwhile, in the other Savannah conference games, defending champions Kano Pillars defeated Niger Potters of Minna by 107-67 points while Kada Stars basketball club of Kaduna edge past Bauchi Nets 78-66.
The Savannah conference regular season will be rounded off on Sunday.
