RWANDA : Hoops league to start in May
THE highly anticipated national basketball league has been penciled to start in the first week of May according to Didier Shema-Maboko, the local basketball federation’s technical director.
After coasting to the pre-season tournament, it is clear that APR are ready to dethrone Kigali Basketball Club (KBC).
“Of course our top priority is to win the league. We intend to beef up the squad with three new players,” APR’s assistant coach Jean Paul Mukasa revealed.
KBC raised eyebrows when they edged APR to the title in what was only their debut season.
For their heroics, they pocketed Rwf 0.5m while APR (runners-up) and CSK (third-place) settled for Rwf0.3m and 0.2m respectively.
This year, eight teams are in contention and they include KBC, APR, CSK, Espoir, KIE, UGB and Lycee de Kigali.
The women league has St.Joseph, Butare High school, KIE, National University of Rwanda (NUR) and APR.
