KENYA : Co-operative Bank tipped to win the league again
NATIONAL champions Co-operative Bank of Kenya are still the team to beat in the Premier League title race this year. Team manager Emmanuel Agunda warned that the bankers are determined to stamp their authority on the local scene as they position themselves for the Kenyan and the zone 5 club titles. This team is still the best and will once again show their might as the league progresses. We proved that by coming from behind to beat KCB Lions over the weekend, said Agunda. Co-op rallied from 21 points down to stun KCB Lions 64-57 in another top clash at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium last weekend, a feat that excited Agunda and the bankers technical bench. Lions roared to 43-23 cushion on a slam by Yoni Wanambiro (191-F-80) before going to an inexplicable slump. Salim Ali, Mayien, Mike Makiadi (199-F/C) and Titus Musembi effort saw Co-op charge right back into contention. Musembi hit a clutch three for 38-43, Mayien completed a three point play at 41-43 and banked another shot that locked the duel 43-43. A bewildered Lions struggled from all corners committing turn overs at will. Co-op then dominated the match through Alis impressive display to race up to a 56-46 lead with their Lions losing their cool completely.
