KENYA : Veteran Posta tactician Owino named head coach of the national team
Veteran Posta tactician Ronnie Owino has been named the head coach of the national men's team for the All Africa Games qualifiers in Uganda early next year.
Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairman Paul Otula directed during a Governing Council meeting in Nairobi that Owino will start off the porogramme straight away while the other coaching staff will be named latter.
The Kampala qualifiers would be used to name a team that would represent Zone Five in the Pan Africa Games slated for Mozambique mid next year. Otula asked Owino to look at players in the few play off games that are left and also in any tournament between now and February.
Owino said that he will involve a panel of 10 that includes coaches and officials to come up with a list of 25 players each from where the provisional list would be drawn.
"I believe that the best way to o about this would to be involve others in naming the players then from there now I would sit down with other coaches and looking at the position come up with the best squad." said Owino also Fiba Africa coaches instructor.
Th last national assignment for the senior team was in Kigali, Rwanda in 2009 during the nations cup qualifiers. Kenya lost to eventual winners Egypt and Rwanda winning against Uganda and Burundi. The team was handled by Gitau Waringo.
