UGANDA : Riders in relegation war today
By Charles Mutebi
THE Knight Riders appear to possess more than an outside chance at surviving relegation from the FUBA mens basketball first division.
Going into their match with St. Michael today the Riders sit one place outside the drop zone, having managed 24 points from 18 games.
However their position is far from safe, considering the KIU Titans, who are one place below the Riders on 22 points, have two games in hand while the KCC Lions, who are a further place back on 22 points have a game in hand.
Put simply, the Riders remain in mortal danger of being demoted to the mens second division come October. The only way the Riders can prevent relegation is if they win the rest of their regular-season games and KIU lose theirs.
It is no mean feat since the Riders still have to face Power and the Kyambogo Warriors in two of those games. In between those matches, they take on KIU.
The Entebbe-based Riders are favourites in none of those three games, a situation that directly translated means, they are certain of relegation.
