LOCAL basketball league champions, Kyambogo warriors have made a false start at this year’s zone 5 club championship when they went down 61-81 to KCB Lions.
After long hours on the road, fatigue caught up with the Warriors as they played five hours after arrival against the KCB Lions who arrived in Bujumbura earli¬er on Wednesday for the week long Zone 5 club championships.
“The players were tired from the long journey but will cope up as the tourna¬ment goes on,” explained a confident Coach Gad Eteu.
As finalists in last year’s edition hosted in Kampala, the Warriors went into this tournament as favourites but so far they have not put up any performance close to last year’s form.
MEANWHILE defending champions Ssaku and Buddo SS made a formidable start as the secondary school basketball championship tipped off in Tororo yesterday.
Ssaku boosted their chances of taking back the boys title to Luwero with a convincing 87-13 victory over St. Joseph’s Vocational College.
Fred Otieno and Daniel Ongom notched 22 and 21 points respectively.
