By Oliver Albert
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has slapped JKT pointer Francis Mlewa a one-year ban for misdemeanours during his team's NBL final match against Savio on Saturday.
Mlewa is alleged to have kicked Benard Mageni of Savio soon after the end of the third quarter.
The match turned into disputes when angry Savio players stormed the court in a protest for foul play.
In that match Savio managed to beat JKT 63-54 to claim the NBAL title.
The federation’s secretary general Alexander Msoffe said the decision to ban Mlewa from taking part in any basketball event in and outside the country took place on Saturday at the National Indoor Stadium after the end of the match.
"The tournament’s rules and regulation were clearly observed before deciding to ban him,” he said.
Msoffe said the disciplinary committee also found other JKT players, Charles Makene and Frank to be part of the skirmish, and strongly warned them.
Msoffe oreded JKT to foot all medical expenses for Savio player Jije Makani who was injured during the skirmish.
