TANZANIA : Firm moves to support Dream Team
A Dar es Salaam-based firm SD Africa has extended a sponsorship to Dar's dream team in the Intercity Basketball Tournament slated for March 22-28 in Mombasa, Kenya.
Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association's president Simon Msoffe said the firm also sponsored Dar's team in last years Intercity edition held in Arusha.
"We thank the company for their sponsorship which has assured us effective participation in the event," said Msoffe.
Msoffe said the association planned to set up the team destined for the games from players taking part in the ongoing RBA League.
Seven cities from East, Central and Southern Africa have so far confirmed to send teams to the competition, he said.
The cities are Arusha, Tanga, Mogadishu, Kampala, Harare and the hosts Mombasa. He said Sudan's Khartoum has also shown interest in fielding a squad in the event.
Dar es Salaam men and women's teams clinched the runners-up positions in last year's Intercity games in which Kenyan cities excelled, with Mombasa claiming the men's title as Nairobi donned the women's crown.
