UCU Canons v KCC 6pm
Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons have done everything in their powers to survive relegation. Although their first round performances were far from convincing, the Canons seem to have taken relegation as a reality and know that any simple error can condemn them to the MTN-Fuba League Second Division.
That’s why when they came up against Kampala International University (KIU) on Friday, they played like their lives depended on that game. It took sheer luck for KIU to win in overtime 89-86 after UCU Canons had recovered a seven-point deficit in the last one minute.
Even with the loss, UCU Canons still have a chance to survive after the basketball governing body, Fuba, ordered for a replay of their game against KCC Lions. The Mukono-based side turned up late for the fixture last Tuesday but filed a successful petition to have a replay after KCC were awarded a walkover.
The Fuba technical committee admitted there was a miscommunication over tip-off time. “One of our members told UCU on phone that the game would start at 8pm yet the earlier formal communication indicated 6pm,” Fuba assistant general secretary Joseph Manano said.
