RWANDA : APR Step Up Preps for Continental Championship
APR Basketball club has stepped up their preparations for the African Club Championship which will be held in Kigali in December.
The 24th edition of the continental championship will be held in Rwanda for the first time and APR Kenyan born coach Cliff Owuor hopes his team will ride of home advantage to do a lot better than they have done better.
"We are starting training on Monday [today]," said Owuor, head coach of the local league champions.
"By the fact that we shall come against the best teams on the continent, we need to our preparations early enough so that we're in a good position to challenge for the title in front of our home crowd," he noted.
APR will be appearing in the championships for the third time. They finished eighth in the 2008 in Tunisia and ninth a year before in Angola.
The Indomitable Lions have are also favourites to defend their national league title having qualified for the final playoffs.
Meanwhile, Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) technical adviser, Jean Pierre Karuhije has confirmed that preparations to upgrade the Amahoro indoor stadium courts are already underway.
