21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women : Nigeria defeat Mozambique 67-57, finish 5th

Antananarivo (21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women) – Nigeria senior women national team, D’Tigress, Sunday defeated Mozambique by 67-57 points to finish fifth best team in the 21st FIBA Africa Championship for Women at the Palais Des Sports, Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Nigeria former two-time champion of Africa biggest women basketball competition won the first quarter against her 2007 championship quarter-final conqueror by 13-05 points.

The Mozambican rose up to the challenge to rattle the Nigerian in the second and third quarters with 16-12 and 21-19 points victories to trail by just two points going into the last quarter but the Nigerian who are determine not to slip further on the finished-line of the championship rose to the occasion to pick the last quarter by 23-15 points for a cumulative score-line of 67-57 to push down the Mozambican who were semi-finalist in 2007.

Nigeria forward, Charity Egenti led the floor with a double double figure of 18 points, 11 rebounds and 2 block-shots, centre, Adeola Olanrewaju also had a brilliant finish with yet another double double of 15 points and 12 rebounds while Funmilayo Ojelabi consistency continued as she recorded the highest points scored with 21 points and 3 rebounds..

Mozambique trio, Filomena Micato, Anabela Cossa and Ana Azinheira had their names on the list of top scorer in the game with 15 points; 14 points, 4 assists and 14 points respectively.
