UGANDA : Afidra thrills in DMark Power win over Riders
by James Ssekandi
Wandegeya
Saturday Results - Men
Power 86-75 Knight Riders
Div11
Bush Courts 50-43 Livingstone
Berkley 66-64 MBC Rooks
TLC 46-36 Kings
Waiting for an instant reaction to a dud Zone V Club Championship, DMark Power returned to the MTN-FUBA league with a gracious 86-75 win over Knight Riders on Saturday at the YMCA courts in Wandegeya.
Power’s Isaac Afidra sparkled brightest with a game- high 35 points, on a day when the most of the big names on the team oozed real class. Norman Blick sunk 26, while Joseph Ikong was equally impressive with 12.
Power got into their groove quickly and deservedly took a 29-12 first quarter lead to assert their authority. There was however a lapse in Power’s concentration during the second quarter as Riders had reduced the deficit to just one point.
At this moment, Afidra got out of his shell and ensured any thoughts by the packed house of an upset were dashed away. He left the opposition mesmerised with big plays and free-shooting coupled with some easy layups and dunks as the champions got back on track and breezed to victory.
Steven Mtemihonda top scored for the Knight Riders, who have relegation staring at them with 23 points. Jimmy Enabu enjoyed an impressive game as an individual with 19 points whereas Colin Mukiza recorded nine. In the Division II two games, Bush Courts out-muscled Livingstone 50-43, Berkley edged MBC Rocks 66-64 and TLC defeated Kings 46-36.
