NIGERIA : NBBF/Zenith Bank WPL - First Deepwater, Dolphins off to a good start
The second phase of the 2009 Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF organised Zenith Bank Women Premier League dunks off at the Sports Hall of the Asaba Township Stadium, Delta State with three games in the opening day of the phase.
In the first game of the day Sunshine Angels basketball club of Akure over-power Plateau Rocks basketball club of Jos by 66-37 points
The win put the Akure-based side coached by Coach Andrew Isokpehi in a good stead for a good showing in the second phase of the league witnessed series of postponements due to various programmes put up by several bodies.
The second game of the opening day could not hold between Delta Force basketball club of Asaba and F.C.T Angels who could not make it to Asaba in good time, while Dolphins basketball club of Lagos defeated Nigeria Customs by 67-52 points.
The third game of the opening day between First Deepwater basketball club of Lagos and AHIP Queens basketball club of Kano became a one sided affairs as the First Deepwater girls coached by two former Nigeria internationals, Lateef Erinfolami and Shola Ogunade took the Kano side to the cleaner winning by as much as 52 points margin of 74-22 points.
First Bank basketball club of Lagos also had its opening day game against Nigeria Immigration basketball club of Kano moved to the free day next Monday due to the late arrival of the passport ladies who had difficulties in getting to Asaba on time.
Day-2 Games – Friday, August 21:
Five matches are on the bill in day two of the second phase of the NBBF/Zenith Bank Women Premier League.
In the first game Dolphins basketball club of Lagos will take to the floor against AHIP Queens basketball club of Kano at 08.00 hours with the Wale Aboderin girls looking to get even with the AHIP Queens who had the better of both sides in the first phase held in Kaduna last month.
First Deepwater basketball club will look to continue its good showing in her first year in the league when it battle Plateau Rocks of Jos at 10.00 hours while Nigeria Immigration of Kano engage host Delta Force of Asaba at Noon.
Nigeria Customs of Lagos will search for its first victory when it do battle against F.C.T Angels at 14.00 hours and the last game of Day-2 which is the biggest game of the day will see Sunshine Angels of Akure engaging defending champion, First Bank basketball club of Lagos at 16.00 hours.
