GAMBIA : Wallidan basketball team return with trophy
The Wallidan basketball team that went to participate in a basketball tournament in Senegal last week returned home victorious after winning the coveted trophy.
The tournament, which was played in a league format, gathered six basketball teams from Thies, Kaolack, Mbour, St. Louis, Louga and visitors Wallidan. The Wallidan side, who had their final match aborted due to downpour of rain, were confirmed the champions having prevailed in their first four matches.
Wallidan team captain, Hassan Jassey, told Observer Sports that his players did an exceptional job, adding that he was very impressed with what they displayed in Senegal. Delighted by what he saw in Senegal, Jassey said he would like his club to stage similar tournament in Banjul in a bid to revive basketball. The team, which returned to Banjul over the weekend, was under the tutelage of Ousman Turu Conateh.
