TANZANIA : JKT, ABC to compete in zonal tournament
By Majuto Omary
JKT and ABC have confirmed to feature in the zone five basketball tournaments scheduled to take place in Kampala-Uganda from July 27 to August 2.
Lawrence Cheyo, Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) secretary general, said teams from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Eritrea, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and the host would be hunting top prizes.
Cheyo said ABC and JKT had already started preparations for the forthcoming championship and players are determined to compete daringly.
According to him, the federation does not expect last minute withdraw like what happened in the previous events.
"It's good to have two teams in such high profile tournamentswe expect them to fly high the national flag and hopefully they won't pull out,"he said.
Meanwhile, the TBF is planning to organise a basketball coaching course whose instructor will come from Kenya.
The TBF official said the one-week course would start from June 23 to 29, adding that the FIBA Africa recognises it.
He urged all basketball coaches to register for the course that would give them opportunities to officiate in various continental tournaments.
He also disclosed that the eagerly awaited Union Basketball League would take place in Dar es Salaam.
Cheyo named ABC, JKT, Mzinga and Dodoma spurs would represent Tanzania mailand in men's category while Jeshi Stars, JKT queens and Cargo Ladies will be all out to challenge their Zanzibar women counterparts.
