UGANDA : Hawks stranded
Sande Bashaija
Kampala
Tomorrow at YMCA
Falcons v Miracle 5:30pm
Warriors v KIU 8:00pm
Women
Sparks v KIU Rangers 6:30pm
Failure to secure corporate sponsorship could force Gulu Hawks officials to make a very tough decision and dissolve the club. “We have tried to raise funds locally but things are not working out,” Hawks’ team manager cum player Denis Akena told Daily Monitor yesterday.
Hawks, the most consistent upcountry club failed to turn up for their MTN-Fuba League game against MBC Rocks over the weekend citing lack of funds as the biggest cause.
“We told Fuba (Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations) we couldn’t travel to Kampala for one weekend game. We usually prefer playing two games every time we come to Kampala as a way of minimising costs.”
“That’s why we couldn’t travel for only one game on Saturday,” Akena revealed while blaming Fuba for not being lenient with them. Fuba assistant general secretary Joseph Manano though castigated Hawks for not communicating in time.
