UCU Canons v KCC Lions (7pm)
Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons’ bitter loss to Falcons in overtime last Friday could be a motivating factor when they take on lowly Kampala City Council (KCC) Lions in an MTN-Fuba League encounter at YMCA tonight.
Canons, semifinalists in the past two seasons, had a heartbreaking experience, surrendering a 10-point third quarter lead before losing 87-83 against Falcons at Lugogo.
Having also fallen to Warriors and Nkumba Marines, Canons have to pick themselves up as fast as they can to remain in contention for a play-offs slot. A date with struggling KCC Lions couldn’t have come at a better time. KCC, who needed ‘external help’ in the form of Kampala International University (KIU) failing to honour their season-ending game to survive relegation last year, still remain a threat to any opponent’s aspirations.
They have proved that on several occasions by upsetting tougher teams when you least expect them to. Former two-time champions Nkumba Marines will attest to that, having lost to the mayor’s boys in the final bend of the regular season last year.
Coming up against an inconsistent side like UCU Canons presents KCC Lions a perfect opportunity to get their season rolling. But should Ivan Enabu turn up in dazzling fashion like he did in the earlier stages of the Falcons game, UCU Canons should nip this. In the day’s earlier women’s game, UCU Lady Canons will be without injured Frances Nabulobi against Crane High School.
