Basketball in Africa

After topping the league standings at the end of the first stage in the basketball league, finishing with 27 points, two ahead of defending champions Al-Ittihad after 14 matches, these same two teams have both started the Championship play-offs with victories. Al-Nasser defeated Al-Ahli Tripoli 76-55 and Al-Ittihad won 82-58 at Al-Ahli Benghazi.

These four teams –from first to fourth in the first stage qualified for the championship play-off, while the bottom four have started taking part in the relegation play-offs.

Al-Nasser and Al-Ittihad also started the second stage with enjoying bonus points, the former with two and the latter with one.

The Relegation play-offs are between the bottom four, namely Alshabab (19 pts), Al-Madina (18), Al-Hilal (17) and Al-Morog (15) will play in the relegation pool. Alshabab are awarded a two-point bonus and Al-Madina one.

In their first outings in this second stage, Al-Madina defeated Al-Shabab 64-62, while Al-Hilal won 64-31 against Al-Morog.
