LIBYA : Al-Nasser Best Equipped in Championship Play-offs
Al-Nasser seem to be working on all cylinders in the run in to the basketball championship. They are proving to be the most consistent in the Champion-ship Pool and after three matches have already managed to open a three-point lead over their nearest challengers and defending champions Al-Ittihad.
They are the only ones to have won all their three matches and even inflicted the first defeat on Al-Ittihad who then also suffered a second loss against their biggest rivals Al-Ahli of Tripoli.
The game between Al-Nasser and Al-Ittihad keenly anticipated. Al-Nasser proved their mettle winng by 16 poi-nts, 86-70. The led at the end of all four sessions (18-15), (40-21), (68-48) and eventually 87-70.
Al-Nasser previously beat Al-Ahli 76-55, then crowned another fine performance at Al-Ahli of Benghazi to win 84-54 (20-9, 45-26 and 64-40).
After three matches Al-Nasser have 8 points, Al-Ittihad on 5, and Al-Ahli (Tripoli) and Al-Ahli (Benghazi) 4.
In the Relegation Pool the most likely survivors after three matches look to be Alshabab. They lead the standings by a point from Al-Madina (7-6).
Alshabab’s lead is only the result of the two bonus points at the end of the first stage. Otherwise their record is similar to Al-Madina’s with two wins and a defeat. Al-Hilal and Al-Morog bring up the rear with four points.
