ANGOLA : Spain defeat Angola, not enough to reach final : Spain U18 - Angola U18 76:61
Spain Junior National Team completed their Pool A action at the Vilagarcia Basket Cup with the victory. They defeated Angolan counterparts after trailing for the majority of the encounter but still could not make it into the Final. Though Russia lost to Germany it was not enough for the hosts to enter the championship game. Spain will now play against Italy for the Bronze medals. Angola lost all of their three games in the pool and is scheduled to take on New Zealand for the 7th-8th spot.
Angola surprised Spain right from the start as they matched the hosts in all components and eked out an 18:17 lead after the starting frame. The teams traded baskets throughout the second period before Eduardo Ferreira and Miguel Kiala (198-C-90) sealed the first half outcome at 35:32 for Angola. Spain struggled to perform in the third quarter as well as they managed just 15 points heading into the final term down by one point. But finally the home team adjusted as Miguel Lorenzo (206-C/F-91) paced them ahead. Spain accounted for 29 points in the fourth period and claimed a confident win at the end. Miguel Lorenzo finished with 16 points to lead the Spaniards. Miguel Servera (199-G-92) added 12 points, while Ignacio Guigou (186-G-91) had 10 in the win. Emanuel Antonio (180-G-90) and Miguel Kiala finished with 12 points apiece for Angola. Josemar Carvalho (193-F-90) had 9 points in defeat.
