Zone 6 Nations Cup for men: South Africa beat Zimbabwe 68 – 58 in opening game
The men team of South Africa beat yesterday Zimbabwe 68 – 58 in opening game of Zone 6 Nations Cup for men played in Maxaquene stadium of Maputo, Mozambique and qualifying for the final round of Africa Nations Championship to be held from 05th to 15th August 2009 in Libya.
South Africa won the three first quarters (17 – 10; 18 – 14 and 21 – 15) before lost the last (19 – 12) with the late rising up of Zimbabwe.
Eric Banda of Zimbabwe was the best scorer of the game with 20 points and 3 rebounds.
The best scorer of South Africa was Neo Mothiba with 15 points and 5 rebounds while his teammate Keneth Motaung recorded 12 points and 1 rebound.
For the day 2, Zimbabwe will face the host country, Mozambique while South Africa will take a rest.
