TANZANIA : Kenyan teams shine in intercity basketball

Mombasa and Nairobi claimed this year's Intercity basketball titles after winning their final matches against Dar es Salaam teams.
Defending champions Nairobi retained their women title after beating Dar Dream team 53-27 while Mombasa dethroned Dar es Salaam men's team 63-62 in a closely fought encounter.
Nairobi who lost to Dar es Salaam 64-65 in the first round, played brilliantly yesterday to secure an impressive victory.
The winners finished the first quarter leading 17-5 and extended it to 32-16 at the end of the first half.
Dar es Salaam girls lost steam in the third quarter and allowed Nairobi to register 12 points against 5 they chalked in that stage.
Nairobi finished the fourth quarter with 9 points while restricting Dar es Salaam to six point gain.
The men's final match between Mombasa and Dar es Salaam was tough and unpredictable.
Dar es Salaam finished the first quarter leading 18-15 before Mombasa playing better in the second quarter to finish 27-26.
Dar es Salaam managed to settle score in the third quarter to end 43-43 all. Mombasa added 20 more points in the final quarter against 19 posted by Dar es Salaam.
Harare claimed the third position after beating Kampala 53-44 in the play off encounter at the same venue.
The tournament's debutants, Harare lost to Dar es Salaam in the semi final stage while Kampala bowed to Mombasa at the same stage.
