NIGERIA : Live returns to National Stadium as First Deepwater pipe Dolphins in friendly
The palpable quietness that has enveloped the indoor sports hall of the Lagos National Stadium was broken last Thursday as thousands fans trooped the nation top-most basketball arena to catch a glimpse of action in the friendly game between First Deepwater basketball club and Dolphin basketball club.
The test match between both sides witnessed a new beginning for the players and handlers who were on trial for the first time saw Dolphin drawing the first blood which drew cheers from the fans who has been deprived of top flight basketball actions in recent.
The coaches Lateef Erinfolami and Shola Ogunade tutored First Deepwater team rose to the challenge poised by the Wale Aboderin Dolphin ending the first quarter by 23-09 points.
The staggering first quarter score-line became the tonic the Dolphin ladies needed to wake up to the reality of being white-washed to pick the second quarter with a narrow margin of 14-12 points to end the first stanza at 35-23 points in favour of the Oil and Gas ladies who are the latest entrant to the Nigeria Women League.
Both tied the third quarter at 20 points apiece with First Deepwater ladies falling back on experience to take the game out of the reach of the more faster and enterprising Dolphin ladies to win the fourth quarter by 29-22 points to end the game at 84-65 points.
Chairman of First Deepwater basketball club, Engr. Babatunde Babalola praised his wards but urged them to be more proactive in subsequent tune-up games in order to be ready for the league.
He urged the team management to organized more friendly games for the side both at the local scene and neighbouring West Africa countries.
