KENYA : Menengai win girls’ basketball diadem

Menengai High School are the Nakuru District secondary schools girls’ basketball champions.
They were crowned after defeating Nakuru Girls 24-23 in a tough match at Nakuru High School at the weekend.
The victory has given them a ticket to the three-day Rift Valley provincial games starting tomorrow.
In the semi-finals, Menengai dismissed Shiners Girls 49-10 while the losing finalists hit Mustard Seed 52-14.
In the play-offs, Shiners defeated Mustard Seed 17-16.
In Pool A matches, Menengai thrashed Christ the King Academy 46-6, hit Mustards Seed 32-14 and hammered Mama Ngina 53-4 to emerge tops.
In other matches, Mustard hit Mama Ngina 22-6, Christ The King Academy beat Mama Ngina 15-10, but went on to lose 14-4 to Mustard Seed.
Pool B results: Nakuru Girls 55 Afraha 15, Kirobon 15 Shiners Girls 29, AFraha 15 Shiners 36, Nakuru Girls 58 Kirobon 18, Afraha 7 Kirobon 32 and Nakuru Girls 51 Shiners 13.
In the boys’ basketball, Menengai won the trophy after hitting Nakuru Boys 37-33 in the final.
On their way up, Menengai dismantled Afraha High 36-23 while Nakuru Boys defeated Victonel Academy 49-36.
Afraha were third after they beat Victonel Academy 32-28 in the play-off.
In Pool A matches, Menengai hit Nakuru Boys 49-23, dismissed Kirobon 58-34, but lost to Victonel 29-32.
Nakuru Day lost 28-42 to Victonel and 36-46 to Kirobon while Kirobon hammered Victonel 40-38.
In Pool B, Nakuru Boys hit St Francis 57-10, Afraha beat Sacred Heart 25-13, Nakuru Boys defeated Sacred Heart 56-21, St Francis lost 11-42 to Afraha and Nakuru Boys won 33-31 against Afraha.
