Five men’s teams are taking part in the zone 5 qualifiers tipping off this morning in Kigali but only the top two are assured of slots at the Africa Championship due August in Libya.
Uganda checked in yesterday morning (11am) and have to battle hosts Rwanda, favourites Egypt, Kenya and Burundi for one of the two slots.
“We have trained so hard and I believe we can qualify,” coach Timothy Odeke said on phone from Kigali yesterday.
Egypt are clear favourites and Odeke is looking to get the better of the other opponents and qualify as number two. “My boys can compete favourably against the rest of the teams apart from Egypt,” he added.
The women’s team has Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya to contend with.
