NIGÉRIA : Lagos host AKOFA Ivy Basketball finals

The final matches in all categories of the AKOFA Ivy Basketball League will hold Friday, February 27th at the Avicenna College, located in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos – the commercial headquarters of Nigeria. The basketball competition organised specially for private secondary schools in Lagos State and environs took the jump ball last month at various schools grounds with 26 schools participating. The closing ceremony begins at 2.00pm prompt.

In the first of the final games Holy Child College will face Indian Community School in the Junior Girls category. The Junior Boy’s final will be settled between Avicenna and International School University of Lagos. After them the seniors will take to the court with Holy Child College and Atlantic Hall playing in the female category. The last match of the day and indeed the star feature also has the University of Lagos School with ISL boys battling Dansol in the final match for senior boys. The ISL boys were runners up to Ronik School, Ejigbo last year.

On the road to the final Atlantic Hall defeated today’s hosts school Avicenna 12-7 while Holy Child College cut Vivian Fowler Memorial College by 17-14. Dansol defeated the Lebanese Community School 43-40 to reach the final game. The Lebanese girls were runners up in female senior category last year.

The Chief Executive Officer of AKOFA Sports Mr. John Bimbo Faniran told reporters after the semi final games on Wednesday that he was looking forward to an exciting final event. “The competition is getting more interesting every year with more schools striving to get registered. And the same way, the competition on the courts are now more interesting with the standard a lot higher than when we started.

“The league has been 10 years on and has grown in every way. Every team in the final played hard and tough to get there and so we expect super competition,” Faniran said.
