TANZANIA : Vijana hit TM Rockets in RBA league
Vijana ‘The City Bull’ yesterday trounced TM Rockets 88-32 in the ongoing Kili RBA Basketball League. The Western Conference match played at the National Indoor Stadium saw Vijana, who are also the league's reigning champions, on rampage as they outfought, outthought and outcompeted their opponents from the word go.
They took a comfortable 38-9 lead at the breather. Soud Abdulrazack led the assault for the winning side after scoring 21 points, while Emmanuel Mwikalo counted 10 points. Robert Haide and Aziz Zozo scored 11 and 8 points respectively for Rockets, who, however, couldn’t match the rampant Vijana.
In Eastern Conference matches played earlier on the day, JKT walloped Tanzania Prisons 60-42. The winners started the game strongly and were 35-17 up at half time. Leslie Peter was JKT’s top scorer, with 12 points while his fellow Charles Makene scored 10. Prisons’ John Damas and Richard Hoza scored 10 and 8 points respectively.
The group ‘B’ (or Eastern Conference) matches which were initially scheduled for Saturday, was postponed to yesterday following the death of JKT Ladies player, Sifa Omari. Pazi beat University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) outsiders with 62-58 points in the second match. Pazi led by 25-21 points in the closely fought first half and they had to hold their nerves to maintain their four points lead, after the final whistle as Outsiders matched their scoring spree in the final half.
Pazi’s Andrew Ikungura and Denis Chibule scored 18 and 17 points respectively, while Lloyd Mpoli scored 17 points and Claudio Kisanko 11 for the losing side. In the third game, Mgulani beat Craws 79-51. The victors were 45-20 at half time. Edmund Pastory and Christian Jackob scored 25 and 20 respectively for Mgulani, as Eliabu Minja and Godfrey Odida put 19 and 9 respectively for Craws.
