TANZANIA : Arusha to host inter-city basketball tourney
East and Central African states inter-city basketball tournament will be held in Arusha in March. Preparations for the meet billed to attract the best basketballers in the region are underway.
Ali Jua Mwakalinga, Arusha’s Basketball Association chairman said Arusha has embarked on vigorous daily training at the Soweto grounds in Kaloleni area to make sure that they emerge champions of the tournament. “You know we are the hosts of the tournament so we must show others that we are the best and we deserve to lift the trophy,” he said.
Cities that are expected to participate in the tourney include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kampala, Bujumbura, Kigali, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Mbeya, Tanga and Arusha. Last year’s event was held at the Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam and the host emerged victorious in both men and women categories.
