ZIMBABWE : Fair play from Raiderz and JBC

RAIDERZ and JBC proved a force to reckon with when they finished fifth and sixth, respectively, at the regional Men’s Africa Club Championship, which ended in Lusaka, Zambia last week.
Zone Six Federation of International Basketball Association (Fiba) president, Anibal Manabe, believes Zimbabwe, has great potential to emerge as regional champions in the future.
"However, one thing that you have to admire in the Zimbabweans is their seriousness. This is why we placed them on our developmental structures,
"Next year there will be Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and Zimbabwe stands a good chance to host the games as they have the infrastructure. They may qualify because Angola and Mozambique are already through,” he was quoted in the press.
Teams from the hosting nation, Heroes and Hetro Bullets, were disqualified in the second round after Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) failed to pay affiliation as well as participation fees amounting to US$9 000.
Zimbabwe’s Raiderz beat fellow countrymen JBC 46-41 in a fifth place play off.
Nine time continental champions, Primeira de Agosto, who had experienced players from the European leagues to boost their team dismissing regional powerhouse, Angola’s Atletico Sportivo de Aviacao.
