Swallows (Togo) 67-89 APR

RWANDA’s basketball giants APR breathed life into their campaign at the 23rd edition of the Fiba-Africa club championship following Tuesday’s 89-67 victory over Swallows of Togo in Tunisia.
Mike Buzangu scored 18 points and four team mates finished in double figures to spark the indomitable lions to their first win in Africa’s most coveted club competition.
The result was timely for the Zone 5 Club Champions after an awful start in the championship. Despite being drawn in a relatively easier Group (A), APR succumbed to successive defeats in their opening games against hosts Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) and Kano Pillars of Nigeria.

Tuesday’s win however left APR and Swallows level in fourth place with four points and with two games left (against Lupopo and ASA of Angola), the former need at least a win to progress into the quarter finals.
Kano Pillars also moved top of Group A after a compelling 102-65 win over Lupopo of DR. Congo. The result maintained the Nigerians’ 100% record in the competition.
Etoile du Sahel, also yet to lose a game are second with six points.

In Group B, defending champions Primero de Agosto grabbed their fourth successive win over Back of Guinea. The Angolan giants cruised to a 101-50 victory to stay top with eight points.

Libya’s El Shabab Arabi also leapfrogged Stade Nabeulien of Tunisia after a closely contest game (67-63). El Shabab, second in Group B has seven points, a point more than the Tunisians.
