LIBYA : Wins for Champions and Cup Holders

ON the second day of competition in the Basketball League, two matches stood out in particular, that involving defending champions Al-Ittihad against Al-Madina, and the encounter between cup winners Al Shabab and Al-Ahli of Tripoli. On both occasions the outcome was foregone conclusions, with victories for both Ittihad and Al-Shabab.
In their game against Madina Al-Ittihad dominated from start to finish, eventually winning 81-54 after finishing all the four sessions on top, 21-4, 44-20 and 60-31 before the final points’ tally and despite some Al-Madina’s reaction in the last two quarters.
Mohammed Diop for Ittihad finished as the game’s top points-getter with 24.

The other game Al-Shabab really needed a victory after their disappointment of losing the season’s opener on default after they failed to turn up on time for the match with Al-Hilal.

Well they managed to get the success they sought by beating Al-Ahli at the end of a closely contested tie. Al-Shabab enjoyed a 14-point lead at the end after a 60-46 points victory.

Al-Ahli led 18-16 at the end of the first session, but Al-Shabab were 32-29 half way through. The third session was even closer with Al-Shabab nosing in front 41-40, and then they had their best moments in the final session, particularly from the three-point mark to run up a comfortable advantage.

Mohammed Issa was the game’s top scorer with 33 points for Al-Shabab.
In the other matches Ahli Benghazi defeated Moroj 59-54 while Nasser beat Hilal 76-61.
