KENYA : Eagles Wings are eliminated


Eagle Wings are out of the 14th Fiba Africa Cup for women after losing 74-95 to First Bank from Nigeria at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium.

The Nigerian side, with six national team players in their ranks, were made to fight for their win by Wings who could have won the game if coach Thomas Olumbo had used his players well.
Rebecca Serange, Judy Juma, Everlyne Kedogo, Maurine Andalia and Volmet Wanyama were left on the bench for too long as Carolyne Achieng, Linda Nyikuli, Eunice Ouma Brigit Nanzala and Njeri battled with the highly experienced Nigerians.

Gave the game away

After taking a 24-20 at the end of the first quarter, the Kenyans continued to frustrate the Nigerians whose coach opted to rest former WNBA star Udoka Mfon and led 44-38 at the break before they gave the game away in the third quarter, which the Nigerians won 26-10.
Oluchi Ezekwe scored game high 30 points, among them five three pointers while Joyce Ekworomadu had 24 points with four three pointers.
Caroline Achieng led the scores for Eagle Wings with 29 points. Wings still have two preliminary matches as they await to start the classification matches on Thursday. They play Premero de Agosto today and Radi from DRC Congo on Tuesday.

The other Kenyan team, Kenya Ports Authority, who are already in the quarter finals, beat Victoria Club of DR Congo 57-49 victory over Victoria Club from DRC Congo.

Angola’s Primero Agosto became the first team to cross a century mark in the championships with a 100-50 win over Mali’s Djoliba in the Group”A” tie on Saturday.
The win kept the Angolans in the driving seat of the Group ‘A’, in which they are favoured to finish with unbeaten record.
They have six points from three wins. in a rowand are assured to make the top four for the quarter finals. Primero Agosto beat First Bank 63-58 in their opener, rocked Radi of DRC 75-53 before the record win over the Malians.

Desportivo, led by the international guard Mariam Kolga are the other team to watch in the tournament.
They beat Victoria Club 85-41 in game one, defeated APR of Rwanda 88-41before registering another good score 90-57 against CSA of Cote D’ Ivoire.

Monday’s matches Desportivo v KCC (10am), APR v Victoria (12pm), First Bank v Radi (2pm), CSA v KPA (4pm), Eagle Wings v Primero Agosto (6pm), Djoliba v ABC (8pm).
