14th Champions Cup for women : Desportivo beat Djoliba 79-63, move to semi finals
Defending champions, Desportivo of Mozambique beat Djoliba of Mali 79-63 in a tough FIBA Africa women club championships quarter finals game played at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium today.
The champions got off to a 19-16 firsts quarter lead and never looked back despite a tough Djoliba sided breathing down their necks the rest of the way in battle that proved to be the toughest in the quarters.
The second quarter score was 21-15 in favour of the Mozambicans but this fierce duel was broke open only after Deolinda Nguela took over in the third despite the team tying the scores 17-17.
Djoliba threw down everything and had two huge three pointers but Desportivo refused to panic and they recovered brightly to win the show.
Nguela sunk 13 points as did Sakhna Likasy while Diara Desai and Yolanda Jones each contributed 10 for Desportivo. For Djoliba, M'bengue Ndaye led all scorers with game high 19 points while Serem Aminana collected 11.
