UGANDA : Falcons dinner set for Friday
by Sande Bashaija
Lugogo
Today’s fixtures at Lugogo
Vegetarians v Heaters 5pm
Mak Cubs v Amazon 6:30pm
Warriors v Power 8pm
The Africa Zone 5 Clubs Championship due October 28 in Ethiopia is fast approaching but Ugandan representatives Mogas Falcons are still short of funds. To take a 19-man contingent, the six-time league champions need over Shs51m but have only raised Shs15m. Their last hope is a fundraising dinner this Friday at Arirang Restaurant, an event that will see Uganda’s number one Jazz maestro Isaiah Katumwa stage a performance.
Though there is positive hope to make the trip, Falcons Athletics club board of directors chairperson Dr. Elizabeth Nabatanzi, couldn’t hide her fury over the neglect of sports in Uganda. “The youth have lost interest in sports because of negligence.
We only recognize and appreciate talent when it is too late. It’s high time Ugandans came together to rejuvenate sports,” Dr. Nabatanzi told a press gathering, in a tough tone, at Speke Hotel yesterday morning.
“I appeal to all Ugandans to get involved in this noble cause as we try to support our ambassadors,” she added. Tickets for the dinner are on sale at Bakers World, Game shopping mall in Lugogo
