SEYCHELLES : Hawks steamroller Anse Etoile to reach final
PLS HAWKS are in the final of the men’s Sanken Basketball Cup. On Wednesday at Victoria Gymnasium they steamrollered second divisioners Anse Etoile 116-62.
The Hawks lost the first quarter 23-27 but made their experience tell as the match progressed.
Coach Tony Juliette’s star-studded team went on the rampage in the last three quarters to outscore Anse Etoile 37-5, 29-15 and 27-15.
Seychelles centre Rodney Lozé led all scores with 32 points and he was helped in offence by Daniel Victor with 29 points, including four 3-pointers. Captain Jim Domingue and Heribert Derjacques combined for 23 points.
Christian Toulon had the hot hands for Anse Etoile with 23 points, while Luciano Moumou, who had a short stint with the Hawks, added 21 including three baskets from downtown.
Defending champs Hawks, who trounced Division Two winners Mont Fleuri Dawgz 89-30 and former league and cup winners Premium Cobras 89-78 in the previous rounds, were to know their final opponents yesterday as Men’s Division One league champions Baya were to play MBU Rockers in the second semifinal.
The first match of the best-of-three final is on Sunday at 4.30pm at the Palais des Sports.
