ANGOLA : Injuries Affect National Team Performance
The spate of injuries within the national men team of basketball is behind its Thursday's defeat to host China by 68-85, in the third round match of the ongoing Olympic Games, said coach Alberto de Carvalho "Ginguba".
Ginguba, who was speaking to Angop after the match, said the injuries of shooting guards Carlos Almeida and Olímpio Cipriano, as well as point guard Milton Barros, clearly crippled the team in Thursday's match, and in that against the US.
"We have three decisive players injured and this bars us from keeping the same game pace of the opponent teams," said Ginguba.
Milton Barros has a left femur injury, while Olímpio Cipriano suffered a blow during the game with Germany. Carlos Almeida sustained an injury in one of the knees where had undergone a surgery.
He also said the players are also saddened by the death of the mother of a colleague, Leonel Paulo.
Meanwhile, the coach expects the team to have a good performance in the game with Greece for the fourth round of the competition.
