KENYA : Lakeside come up against Champs KCB

by CAXTON APOLLO

Champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions confront Lakeside in one of 12 basketball Premier League second leg matches lined up in Nairobi and Mombasa this weekend.

KCB Lions, who opened their second leg fixtures with a narrow 65-60 win over Mike Mureithi’s Java Warriors, head the 10-team table standings with 20 points. The bankers have won all their 10 matches.
In Saturday's tie at the Nyayo National Stadium, coach Francis “Officer’’ Ngunjiri is still optimistic to keep the bankers clean record.

Unpredictable

As usual, Victor Odendo, Tobias Onyango and Yoni Wanambiro will be the bankers’ key men to watch.
Lakeside have only won three matches in Nairobi and Chrispin Abuto will have a huge task of leading his troops to try and end the champions’ unbeaten record.
Sprite Storms, led by Irene Makori and veteran Anjella Luchivya, meet the unpredictable Strathmore University in the women’s tie at 2 pm. Storms failed to honour their crucial match against Eagle Wings and Wings were a warded a 20-0 walk-over. The students are expected to parade Faith Owich and Lynette Mukiri to give Storms a run for their money.
In the men’s Division One league matches, Lomboritz will battle it out with Mennonites in a tie expected to go either while World Hope face off with African Nazarene University.

In Mombasa, hosts Kenya Ports Authority’s men’s and women’s teams will entertain Dynamites and Terrorists of the University of Nairobi.
The dockwomen were embarrassed in Kisumu by hosts Cruisers and Joyce Makungu, Caroline Arato and Faidhya Mohammed will have to work hard to restore the defending champions’ glory.
In the men’s match, Dan Okwiri, Mike Opel, Patrick Kirui and the Odari brothers have the capacity to demolish the Terrorists.
