TANZANIA : EA Inter-Cities basketball championships get sponsor

East Africa Inter-Cities basketball championships, which are scheduled to begin today at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam, will be sponsored by Uniliver Tanzania Ltd through its soap brand Omo.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the president of East Africa Inter-Cities Basketball tournaments committee, Simon Msofe, stated that Uniliver through Omo had provided a sponsorship totaling Tshs10million which is going to be used for overall preparations of the tournament.
He said that later today, the committee is expected to announce names of others who have also have volunteered to sponsor this year`s championship.
``To a large extent, preparations of the championships are going on well as most of the teams that have confirmed to compete will arrive today, except for Kampala, which was expected to arrive yesterday evening,`` Msofe stated.
The cities that have already confirmed their participation are Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, Tanga, Mbeya, Zanzibar, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kampala, Bujumbura, Kigali, Addis Ababa and Lusaka.
Teams from Dar es Salaam, the host city, are undertaking training at Zanaki Secondary School grounds.
Meanwhile, Msofe mentioned that the schedule of referees who are going to officiate during the championships will also be revealed today by the tournaments� executive committee.
A total of 20 referees have already begun special training in order to be able to officiate well throughout the tournaments.
The defending champions in both men and women titles are the teams from Nairobi City.
