RWANDA : APR crush Rusizi as Marine outdo CSK A
BY JULIUS MBARAGA
Karim Nkusi scored a season high 28 points to lead APR’s Indomitable Lions to a convincing 124-49 win over Cyangugu’s Rusizi at Kimisagara courts on Sunday.
The shooting forward also ended the game with six rebounds to guide the former champions to their fourth consecutive win in as many games that took them to the top of the table.
“We played well today and the fact that we are still unbeaten in the league after playing teams like Espoir and Rusizi is something,” APR’s Kenyan coach Cliff Owuor said.
The APR game did great damage to Rusizi, who almost faltered against the league’s perennial losers Kigali Institute of Education (KIE). KIE almost snapped their losing streak of the season with a close 65-67 loss.
Else where, CSK A dropped their first points of the season after a thrilling contest against the defending champions Marine.
Despite leading in the first three quarters of the game, Marine rallied from an eight point deficit to see off last year’s losing finalists 64-60.
UGB and Espoir also walked way with default points after Rwanda National University (NUR)’s failure to show up.
In the ladies’ category, APR and ISAE registered solid starts to the league. The reigning champions crushed Kabgayi 147-30 while ISAE silenced KIE with a 54-21 victory.
