Four Kyambogo Warriors players sunk double figures, with guard Nelson Wafula scoring a season high 20 points as last season’s beaten finalists romped to an 87-52 win over debutants Kampala City Council (KCC) Lions in the MTN-FUBA Basketball League at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Wednesday night.
In the game that was interrupted by a 15 minute power blackout, Steven Okias (17), Ronnie Kasewu (11) and Joshua Etalu (11) added to Wafula’s cause as Warriors got a much-needed win since their opening day humbling by Nkumba Marines.
Despite missing their coach, Ambrose Tashobya, Warriors were never in trouble outscoring Lions 22-8, 19-11, 15-12 and 31-21 in all four quarters.
“We came into this game with only one intention-winning. It’s good we got that and can focus on our next game,” Okias told Daily Monitor. Warriors face Kampala International University (KIU) in a mammoth tie next Friday.
Lions’ Michael Opolot was a candle-in-the-wind with 16 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter.
In the women’s game, defending champions, Kampala City Council Leopards trounced Amazon Rhinos 66-41 to record a fourth straight win.
Marion Nakaziba collected 10 points while reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Linda Tamale contributed 8 points.
