by Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo
Kampala
Today at YMCA
Power v Falcons (5pm)
UCU v Lady Bucks (3.30pm)
Friday results
Miracle 68-65 UCU Canons
A1 Ch’ge 57-38 Lady Canons
Reigning champions, Mogas Falcons return to action in the MTN-FUBA Basketball League this evening in an intriguing game against 2000 champions Sadolin Power at YMCA Court, Wandegeya.
Falcons, famed for their consistently poor start in recent seasons must beat Power to prevent a repeat of 2007 where they only sneaked into play-offs.
The six-time winners, armed with the Malinga brothers, Eric and Henry and experienced point guard Sam Obol are hoping to win a second straight game to erase an opening day defeat to Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons.
“The Power game is always interesting and keeps the fans on the edge of their seats. It will be so nice if we come out on top and avoid last season’s duel for play-off places,” Eric Malinga told Daily Monitor.
Power will provide a credible proposition with the availability of their ‘prodigal son’ Isaac Afidra who returned after being in exile at KIU.
In the Friday night game, UCU Canons succumbed to a second straight defeat (65-68) to an inspired performance by Miracle. Robert Mubiru scored a game high 18 for Miracle while industriuos Ivan Enabu could only master 11 points.
