UGANDA : KIU Men Overpower UCU Canons in Tense League Tie

by Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo & James Ssekandi

Star guard Ivan Enabu's game high 22points were inconsequential as his Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons succumbed to a 71-81 defeat to Kampala International University (KIU) Men in a thrilling MTN-FUBA Basketball League game played at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Sunday night.
UCU playing without Robert Mugabe and Adam Njoroge dominated the early exchanges, leading 23-19 and 16-13 in the first two quarters but were hit with a spectacular KIU resurgence that yielded double figures for four of KIU's players.
Alex Ohol (18), Orom Makmot (17), Mande Juruni (14) and Moses Olobo (formerly of Nkumba Marines, 12) hit back with KIU outscoring UCU Canons 49-32 in the last two quarters.

With a third straight victory under his belt, KIU Coach Nimrod Kaboha said he was not yet carried away. "We won today because we have a deep bench but we must take it one game at a time," Kaboha told Daily Monitor.

UCU Coach Jason Mehl credited KIU for the fight back. "When we fell eight behind in the third, the guys gave up and the opponents took full charge," he said.
